With the advent of 21st century, the economic and cultural value of the tourism became more important than ever. And many countries have been aware of the importance of it and trying to promote it. In the railway industry, the sightseeing train is the most crucial element. It can be used as a means of transportation for the tourism or can be the objective of the tourism itself.
The sightseeing train can contribute to improve the level of the national leisure life, to fill the cultural gap among the regions, to make foreign exchanges, or to accelerate cultural exchanges among countries. So, I would like to present some guidelines on the development of the sightseeing train through the research on the sorts, the designs and the services of the sightseeing trains operated in Korea or other countries.
