This article statistically analyzed contributive levels of city image components based on an effect and similarity index through the evaluation of citizens and suggested the efficient management system of a city image according to the results. For this study, case cities were selected by the preceding literature and were investigated concerning city image components through a questionnaire. The new evaluation method for analysis of a city image was presented in this process. The results of this research are as follows: 1) City image components consist of two elements: spatial(60.47%) and non-spatial elements(39.53%). They present relative weights according to each city and play an useful role in the classification of cities. 2) The effect index one of contributive levels of city image components could be deduced by regression analysis on the adjective evaluation and the similarity index by Multidimensional Scaling(MDS, figure 4) and internal analysis(figure 5). By this results, a city image could be, totally, analyzed in the more detail point of view. 3) Not only spatial elements but also non-spatial elements have, relatively, important influence with the establishment of a total city image. Therefore, the emphasis on city image planning using non-spatial elements is requested in follow-up studies. This study is meaningful in that statistical evaluative method was proposed. With continued follow-up research, this study may serve as a systematic and logical model to improve the urban image.
