The purpose of this study was to delve into minimal fashion, as maximalism that had been prevailing until the mid-20th century was being replaced by minimalism. In complicated modern society, people is in pursuit of simple formative mode of fashion, and that phenomenon has led to a minimal trend that goes back to the starting point by minimizing the use of design and techniques as much as possible. Earlier studies have mostly dealt with minimalism in association with the history of the arts, and few studies have ever focused on the works of designers who follow minimalism fashion. So it's planned in this study to shed light on the concept of minimalism in fashion from a general standpoint and to describe how modern fashion designers represented minimal fashion in their works.
Minimal fashion is to create a mature and liberal image by avoiding the use of ornaments or accessories within the realm of possibility. In this study, designers who took the initiative in minimal fashion were selected, and then trend in their works was grasped. After the design of minimal fashion in modern times was explored, five features were discussed as formative characteristics of modern minimal fashion: simplicity, clarity, recursiveness, and objectness.
