I studied out the birth story of characters in the point of view that tradition of the literacy culture is inherited and developed.
I researched in that the birth story of characters is mentioned variously according to the type and works. And I studied on the point that the meaning of the birth story is not fixed in our story of ancient times through ‘Yuchungryeoljeon(劉忠烈博)’, ‘Hongkildongjeon(洪吉童博)’ of heroic novels and ‘Sukyoungnangjajeon(淑英娘子博)’, ‘Okdanchunjeon (王丹春博)’ of romantic novels.
I can recognize from this study that the function and meaning of the birth story vary according to works even though they are same type of novels.
I named it “Literacy Culture Elements-Munhakmunhwaso(文學文化)” in a point of view that the birth story of characters works on the novels as an immanent substance. It became a motive that led to the dramatic progress in the development of the story and actualized the cultural rationality. And it was recognized as an unconscious tradition irrespective of rank. All these things made it clear that it has the character of the collective and cultural communication.
