This paper studies the substance of Sun, Woo-Hui's early novels. The estimation of his novels is contrary to each other as a resistible behaviorism or a adaptable actualism. But Sun, Woo-Hui's works seek the world of pure humanism with a single word.
In his representative novel 〈Flame〉, sincerely survey or thinking of the protagonist Go-Hyun about historical stream and social problem produces a historical nihilism on the one hand, a resistance to the violence which inhuman logic of the group does evil to the individual on the other hand. The main point is that his behaviorism and thinking goes forward recovering humanism.
A monologue story 〈Mirror〉 presents the process which Sun, Woo-Hui is inclined to humanism. In this work, he sharply catches that we must resist not the cruel act of the enemy but the violence of ideology or war which has control of him.
In 〈Duck & Badge of Rank〉 and 〈Separate Peace Negotiation〉, Sun, Woo-Hui begins to create a character who practices pure humanity in being free themselves from ideology and law of war.
In conclusion, Sun, Woo-Hui coherently seeks the humanism and the recovery of true human relationship through his early novels. It is varied as a sincerely survey about history and human relationship, sometimes as a courageous resistance and a positive behavior for the individual. Therefore the contrary estimation about Sun, Woo-Hui's early novels should be dialectically comprehended on the higher view such as the pursuit of humanism.
