The purpose of this paper was to estimate a superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase(CAT), glutathione peroxidase(GPX) and glutathione reductase(GR) activities as an antioxidants, and malondialdehyde(MDA) concentration as a lipid peroxidation by administration the vitamine E for eight weeks. S college women of fourteen(vitamine E administration: 7, palcebo administration: 7) was participated as a subject of this study. Maximal oxygen consumption(VO2max) was measured in placebo group and vitarnine E group by using sensormedics cardiopulmonary exercise system. Within one weeks after VO₂max measurement, all subjects was performed until exhaustion a continuous treadmill running on velocity corresponding to individually VO2max 75%. A blood sampling was obtaind in rest, exercise immediately after, recovery 30, 60 and 120 minute.
Noteworthy is that the increase of SOD and CAT activity were signficantly higher in vitamine E group compared to placebo group. Also, the activity of SOD and CAT after exercise and recovery were significantly higher in 4 wks and 8 wks after vitamine E administration compared to before administration.
And the increase of GPX and GR activity were signficantly higher in vitamine E group compared to placebo group. Also, the activity of GPX and GR after exercise and recovery were significantly higher in 8 wks after vitamine E administration compared to before and 4 wks administration.
The concentrations of MDA were significantly lower in 4 wks and 8 wks after vitamine E administration compared to before administration.
In conclusion, this study shows that the long-term administration of vitamine E play a positive role as a free radical scavenger of active oxygen that restrics the activation of antioxidants enzyme(SOK, CAT, GPX, GR) and formation of MDA caused by exercise. Therefore, the administration of vitamine E before exercise was recommended as a ergogenic aids for beginner.
Future studies should be consider physical fitness level, exercise type, and a difference in administration methods following administration of vitamine E.
