This study aims to analyze the possible effects of the proposed development of New Administrative Capital(NAC) on the population, transport and the regional economy in an effort to clarify some of the key arguments concerning the project. It was estimated that the development of NAC will induce some 880~980 thousand populations toward each of the three provinces in Chungcheong Region. While the size of the induced population increase will be the greatest in Chungbuk(CB), it was estimated that the increase in jobs will be slightly larger in Chungnam(CN) than in CB. The results can be interpreted that the location of the NAC in CB Province would bring about the greatest number of population from the existing Seoul Capital Region, thus most effectively help to cure the problem of over-crowdedness there. The magnitude of the effects on the regional economy(GROP) was also estimated to be the greatest when the NAC is located in CB Province with 3053 billion Won compared to 3035 billion Won(CN) and 2964 billion Won(DJ), respectively. If the relocated government personnel increases, however, the position of CB Province and CN Province changes only by a slight margin. The changes in the transport volume both in the existing Seoul Capital Region and the provinces in Chungcheong Region caused by the development of NAC show substantial decrease in the number of trips in the Seoul Region and increase in Chungcheong Region, as expected. While the changes were the largest in both regwhen the NAC is located in DJ, the impact on transport volume significantly increases when the NAC is developed within CB if the government personnel relocation is carried out on a full-fledged scale. In addition to these results, it was also indicated that the national accessibility is greatly enhanced by the development of NAC regardless of the specific location within the Chungcheong Region.
