This study is intended to explore the traffic behavior survey by using Handy GPS which is already marketed. In detail, it studies the literature review about an information collection and the utilization by GPS. And it executes advance experiment in order to examine usage of a GPS receiver and to check precision of data. With a practical case, we use a GPS system in floating survey around a shopping center that located in the provincial suburban area. Finally, it suggests possibility of the GPS traffic survey and a future assignment. The finding shows the traffic survey by using GPS as a result of advance experiment and investigation has high precision of data. GPS is able to use for new evaluation of traffic facilities or a traffic measurement. However, the case of this survey was hard to secure an enough sample number by a receiver diffusion problem. This study had a limitation not to treat a revision technique to increase precision of GPS data and limited an object area to Japan. Therefore, further study must treat a revision technique to reduce a difference between measurement and actual value, and applicability of Korea.
