The main purpose of this study is to analyze the original structure of the central area of ancient Kyongju, the capital of Shilla Kingdom, by throwing light on the original structure in the urban planning for the ancient capital. In the original structures of cities are reflected the inner attributes of people who constructed the cities. The second purpose of this study is to suggest a standard form for the restoration and preservation of the original structure, by analyzing the characteristics of the spatial scope and the spatial structure of the original structure in the light of the street net, the position of palaces and the grid pattern of shill a era. And the urban plannings for the ancient capitals of China, Japan, Koguryo Kingdom and Palhae Kingdom are examined in the light of understanding of spaces, religion, and the concepts nature of people who constructed those capitals, the basic considerations in urban planning.
