This paper intends to search for a standard set of indicators to measure urban sustainability based on the system-orientor framework. The critical review towards urban sustainability reveals several types of indicators frameworks including economics-based framework, theme-based framework, causal framework, linked human ecosystem based framework, and multiple capital-based framework. However, each of indicators frameworks not only has own advantages and disadvantages, but also needs to further develop an standard framework for measuring urban sustainability. The system-orientor framework can be such a standard framework in assuming urban place as a self-organizing system, which is composed of several subsystems including human system, support system and natural system. The vitality of total system depends on the vitality of their subsystems that also require to fulfill their basic needs in order to sustain. The concept of orientors represents these basic needs and fundamental interests, named as existence, effectiveness, freedom of action, security, adaptability, coexistence and psychological needs. Each orientors should be satisfied with the minimum limits to keep system's vitality and sustainability. Thus, it is possible to develop a standard set of indicators from measuring these minimum limits of basic orientors from various resource inventories of different urban places.
