The purpose of this study is to review the development characteristics of technology parks and suggest a development strategy for developing technology parks initiated by local government. This study is consisted of three areas as followings: literature reviews of theory, analytical reviews of technology parks as a case study, and specific suggestions for development strategies. Followings are the proposed contents and methods of this study.
First. basic policies related with the major elements of site planning will be investigated by a comprehensive reviews of related literatures. Theories which are relevant to this study are synthesized to set the research frames and are utilized to define the boundary of research from the early stage. Second, analytical reviews of technology parks, particularly case study of four local government-led parks in Japan which have been constructed for the regional development on technology innovation. will be implemented to find out the foundation features, physical elements, management and support mechanisms. A series of critical analysis includes field study and interviews with park's representative or general manager. Third. the result of analytical reviews will be synthesized and used to suggest the major strategies and guides for the future development of technology parks initiated by local government and the specified directions of site planning, including the practical ways of construction, operation and management.
