The appropriate size of retail shopping center in residental sites has been changed gradually by the circumstances of automobile ownerships in the residential sites and the number of retail stores near the residental sites. This research aims to find the development circumstances influencing the use and management of retail shopping center. and to develop the minimum size of retail shopping center in different development circumstances based on the data of retail shopping center size. the types of business, the locations of competitive stores, the business standing, the amount of consumption, the commercial boundary in 24 different residental sites around the nation. This research suggests that increasing the size of retail shopping center leads to increase the consumption rate of the shopping center. and the level of business standing increases with decreasing commercial boundary. With increasing the size of city, the business standing is decreased and similar types of business are increased. By the increasing the size of site, the consumption has been increased and the satisfaction using retail shopping center is also increased. The size of city and site have influenced to change the appropriate size of retail shopping center so that this research concludes that the minimum size of retail shopping center located in Seoul Metropolitan area is 0.76㎡/unit. and the size in large metropolitan area in 0.82 ㎡/unit. and medium size cities is 1.03㎡/unit.
