The sustainable development should be more and more important planning method in the future for urban and housing estates. The purpose of this study is to establish planning direction and important planning factors for the sustainable development for site planning so that analysis methods such as world-wide case studies and survey with experts were carried out. The results of this study are summarized as follows ;
First, this study developed about 80 planning factors for the sustainable development, based on following four sectors ; 1)land use, 2)transportation and circulation, 3)energy use and 4)management of natural resources. Second, the most important planning factor was conservation of natural environments to improve ecological system and sustainablilty. Third, the sustainable development for site planning should be applied as planning direction for the development of sustainable multi-family housing estates. Fourth, this study established 30 important planning factors for the sustainable development through interview and survey with experts in korea. This 30 important planning factors for the sustainable development should be tested in actual planning model by following researches.
