Traffic is very important function in urban areas. Problems of traffic congestion and traffic accidents were prevalent during the thirty-years. but particularly, in urban areas the traffic accidents and congestion is raised very rapidly.
This study employs the factor analysis and regression analysis to estimate the characteristics and influential factors of traffic accident in the view-point of human, vehicle and environment. Traffic accidents are divided into three categories : physical characteristics, operational characteristics, and regional characteristics.
Traffic accident data based on the survey conducted in July 1988 by ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY ASSOCIATION are used to estimate the characteristics and impacts of the independent variable through the use of factor analysis and regression analysis.
In empirical analysis it was found that all coefficients estimated are most highly significant on the dependent variable. Traffic accident are related to the roadway operation, i.e, the availability of safety, identity whether a safety deficiency exist. It was also found that the characteristics and influential factors of traffic accident should be primary studied when the countermeasure of traffic accident is to be planned.
