It is important to build a model on the correlation of the location of central business uses with pedestrian roads, realistically and microscopically from experience, to study and to develop the spatial structure of the urban center in our country.
This study makes the following hypothesis, “the correlation of the business activities of the city with the width of the existing roads and the volume of pedestrians on the roads, can be represented by an objective pattern.
In this study two models are developed through a case study of the central areas in DaeJun City and CheongJu City.
The first one presents clearly the correlation of the location of central business uses (i.e. retail, office & medical service, neighborhood facilities & lodgings, and restaurant business) with the width of the roads adjacent to these. The second expounds the correlation of their location with the volume of pedestrians on the roads adjacent to them.
We think the result of this study could be put to practical use as a planning indicator in the design and redevelopment of urban central areas in our country.
