During recent years in the world close attention has been paid to many phenomena which can be placed under the umbrella of sustainable development and the rise of quality of life issues. The operationalization of the concept of sustainable development and quality of life requires major changes and making them meet:policy, design, management, and satisfaction to the development, analysis and implementation processes. The concept links economic, social and environmental sectors together in a system, where each sector has its own objectives which may be in competition of those of the other sectors.
This paper presents an overview of some comparison results of “artificial ground” conducted in Japan and Korea for the purpose of expansion of greenary space in urban areas, and attention is drawn to extract some clues for developing related policies and for creation of technical guidelines in advance. This paper, therefore, does not give an exhaustive account of artificial ground in urban areas but is intended as a reference source which may be used primarily by researchers, policy planners or housing developers who may wish to incorporate the environmental agenda into the existing infrastructure of housing development.
