Construction of skilled nursing facilities have been required to meet the increased population of the elderly. They provide services of professional medical care and as a clinic for the serious patients having senile diseases such as dementia and paralysis. They should be connected with public medical facilities to achieve a comprehensive medical management. Appropriate facilities should be constructed in each region, but management programs for rehabilitation should be developed and distributed to promote increase in quality.
In the future, with the rapid increase of the elderly population, it is assumed that the patients with chronic senile diseases will sharply increase. So, professional service facilities to meet the needs of the current society should be expanded. Also, for the elderly of low-income families who need long-term convalescence and nursing, opportunity to use the facilities should be given by governmental policy in public sector.
