The aim of the research is to study the trend of increasing private space in urban apartment housings. This is related to post-industrial society theory. As increasing values and rules of post-industrial society system, people who dwell in urban area don't need to cooperate with their neighborhood to live anymore. Therefore the common space in an urban multiple dwelling house starts to lose its own spatiality. It also caused urban community and public space to be shrunk. Finally, private areas meet public areas without common territory. However this is an unvoidable situation to the world urban housings. In Korea, increasing of hall and core type apartments accelerate this phenomenon. Is is very similar to abroad cases. The common space of european urban housing tends to be decreased and scattered as small particles. Then they are absorbed by private area. The result of this study recognizes that the more common space would turn into private space in the near future the more new housing plans we never have done before would be required. We should adopt new circumstances and maximize efficiency of the urban house space. This is the time to redefine the meanings of common space and private space.
