Decentralized control method in which a damper utilizes only the information of the damper-installed story responses was proposed. Market-based control (MBC) system. one of the decentralized controllers. determines the control force using the function of demand and supply curve based on market principle suggested by Pareto theory, and since demand curve is determined in proportion to displacement and velocity of the damper-installed story, the control force of the damper becomes the function of those responses. In this study, the effectives of MBC for seismic response mitigation and logical validity in the derivation process for control force were investigated. Parametric studies on MBC were performed using different demand and supply curves so that the effect of each parameter on control performance was identified. Numerical examples of single-degree of freedom systems and 5 story building structures subject to earthquake load show that MBC may provide good control performance when appropriate demand and supply curves are selected, but the reasonable process for determining these curves should be developed.
