The ventilation system in a high-rise residential building has an individual characteristic different from that in a detached house. That is, according to the influence of the pressure difference determined by the temperature difference between inside and outside and building height, the system performance and the indoor air condition become to be changed and have different values on the each floor. Therefore, those characteristics have to be considered in the design. This study has two purposes. One is evaluating the performance of the ventilation system applied to the high-rise residential building; the other is improving its efficiency. In this report as basic examination for them, field survey carried out on the performance of ventilation system in a high-rise residential building constructed in domestic is described. The improvement of ventilation efficiency and the odor diffusion control from cooking are main issues to improve ventilation system performance. Accordingly, cooking odor diffusion, indoor pressure distribution, and indoor airflow characteristic in various operating conditions of ventilation system are measured in field survey. From the results, we were able to grasp the relation and the influence among the ventilation facilities, the indoor pressure distribution and the airflow characteristic in conditions of operating ventilation facilities, the odor diffusion characteristics from kitchen and dining room, and the influence by outdoor wind velocity.
