Rapid development of information technology in our contemporary society leads to the improvement of income level and quality of life, thus impacting overflowing visual information and the theory of interior design. Moreover, Various experiences and rich information of housing have influenced on the increase of self-expression and the level of qualitative and quantitative needs by consumers have come to be personalized, diversified, and manifolded, requiring more active participation of professional interior designers. Based on this background, there are communication deficiencies caused by image difference between design professionals who are accustomed to related design theories and visual information and clients who are not prepared to perceive real design effects. This did not reflect clients' needs in full fledged scale and progressed one-sided design, finally went against the present condition, where user oriented interior design proposed. This research aims to analyze the effects of visual materials on the communication between designers and clients. For this purpose, the survey with visual materials illuminated the preference for interior design style by diverse residents' life style and their personal characteristics in apartment housing and investigated the differences of visual and terminological perception. This study would contribute to the achievement of user oriented interior design by proposing valid communication materials between designers and clients.
