In the Korean history, the former pare of the 20th century can be called the period of the movement of the national liberation, while the latter part of the 20th century, the period of the people's movement. This study aims to annotate a total of 1,746 collected people's songs which were sung at the sites of the people's movement from 1945 to 2000, the latter part of the 20th century. It also seeks to investigate the contents collected through the statistical analysis. The study tries to divide the period of the people's songs into five, and on the basis of this, examine the subjects of writing words and music and their characteristics. It also endeavors to trace the periodical change, while classifying the contents of songs into themes.
This study will help compile the comprehensive and systematic collection of materials which can be used as texts by a variety of studies related with the people's songs, by undertaking the annotation to the collected people's songs. It will also contribute to strengthening the adaptability with which the humanities can promptly cope with the change of the structure and circumstances in the process of the establishment of digitalized knowledge resources.
The desires of the people, in our recent society, are positively expressed through diverse opinions. The life of people's songs does not disappear along with the weakening of the radical social movement. People's songs have a nutritious element within themselves which can be sublimated to active and creative energy with which to cope with changing cultural environments. It is because in this age of people's songs, Korea has made the brilliant economic development unprecedented in the world history. Hence the effectiveness and the significance of this study.
