CuInSe₂(CIS) nanoparticles with chalcopyrite tetragonal phase were successfully synthesized from the reaction of Cu and In chlorides and Se powder in an autoclave by solvothermal route with diethylamine as a solvent. A morphological change of the nanoparticle was observed as a function of reaction temperature and time. The CIS rod-type nanoparticles with widths of 5-10㎚ and lengths in the range of 30-80㎚ were obtained at 180℃ for 36 hours whereas particles of spherical shape with diameter in the range of 5-15㎚ were observed at 250℃ for 36 hours. The formation of the rod-like nanoparticles in diethylamine, without double N-chelation, was explained by the SLS (Solution-Liquid-Solid) mechanism. The analyses of XRD and TEM diffraction confirmed a typical chalcopyrite tetragonal structure for both type nanoparticles. The products were characterized by inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy (ICP AES), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high- resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM).
