This is to explain the cathodic protection for metal structures and buried pipelines corrosion protecing.
There are two types of system in cathodic protect as sacrificial anode method and impressed current method. Generally sacrificial anode method has been used in marine structures and impressed current method has been mostly used in a buried pipelines which potential has limited to soil resistivity and environment conditions. For most impressed current cathodic protection applications, the direct current(DC) is supplied by a transformer and rectifier connected to the conventional alternating current(AC) from utility grid, and consequently its cost is very high.
As the cost advantages of hptovoltaic system, its use for cathodic protection has become widespread.
