In this study, an election protocol for electing deadlock detectors in a network, where a hierar-chical deadlock detection scheme is used, was proposed, whereas no such study has been attempted in the literature. In this study, once the cont-roller bas been elected, communication time between the controller and the other nodes will be less than that in Garcia-Molina's election protocol, since information about the number of input and output ports and the number of sons is utilized in this study in order to reduce future communication volume between the controller and the other nodes.
