A preliminary study for a framework of devising a QOS guaranteeing service scheme is presented. The intent of the framework is to apply the deterministic QOS scheme to a statistical QOS handling system on purpose of borrowing the guaranteeing nature of the former. The validity of the framework mainly depends on two factors: l)accuracy of the source traffic modeling, and 2)properly designed service scheme within a switching node. Regarding the source traffic modeling, a bounding mechanism such as leaky bucket is preferred to accommodate the guaranteed QOS support in any sense, deterministically or statistically. In this paper, confining to the first factor only, an exact analysis of a non-buffered leaky bucket is given, which is fed by a discrete-time on-off source traffic. The analysis is essential to derive a new source model which is characterized by (σ, ρ, ξ)-constraint pertaining statistically upper bounded property. This source model is an initiative to the purposed framework. The accuracy of the analysis, and thus the accuracy of the new source model are validated through a comparison with simulation results.
