This study was intended to probe the scheme for correctly making Korean fashion design known to the world. It is attempted to the influence of Greek Costume in contemporary fashion. Especially, this study focused on exhibition of "Goddess" and "Alexander the Great."
The exhibition of "Goddess" was from the clothing of ancient Greece to such modern evocations as Madame Gres's emblematic creations and Versace's Neoclassical loincloths, classical dress has profoundly inspired and influenced art and design over the millennia. "Goddess" presented clothing, prints, photographs, and decorative works of art, from the 18th century onward, to reveal the many ways in which classical dress has become a truly timeless style.
The exhibition of "Alexander the Great: East-west Cultural Contacts from Greece to Japan" consisted of more than 170 outstanding artworks gathered from some of the world's leading museums, Buddhist temples, and private and public collections in Japan. This exhibition observed how the ancient civilizations of East and West became interlocked and, with the passage of time, the resulting ripples of influence traveled further eastward along the silk roads, finally reaching Japan.
The designers featured included Paul Poiret, Mariano Portuny, Madame Gres, Madelenine Vionnet, Gianni Varsace, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Tsumori Chisato, Lee Sangbong, etc.
Therefore, Korean designers should refrain fing the foreign collection without a clear purpose and devote their effort to creative with an active attitude.
