For the past ten years, many sectors of the AEC industry have been developing standards for the electronic sharing and exchange of product model data. Several related industries such as automotive and shipbuilding manufacturing have been relatively successful in the use of integrating electronic product models into their operations. The AEC industry is lagging in this development. For the AEC industry to meet the challenges of the future, the development of a product modeling standard that enables project information’s sharing, storing, and exchange is essential.
In this research, therefore, authors have highlighted the standards for integration, and reviewed case studies on the standards for integration by literatures investigation and multiple research strategies. Based on these research strategies, consequently, authors propose best practices for using product modeling technologies, called by standards for integration in the AEC industry.
