Since his demise at 27, the literary achievement of Sim Yon Soo hasn't been unearthed for half a century. His posthumous poetic works have come to the recognition of the outside world, most of which had been created far before the Liberation Day 10 1945. So far, they couldn't have been published under the socialistic atmosphere in China.
In a larger social and literary context, the publication of the Collected Poetry of Sim Yon Soo could be considered as a foundation of the future literary studies of Choson(Korean) nationals in China. According to Kim, Ryong Un, a complete and serious study on Sim, a typical Korean poet among the literati active in China, will provide a timely opportunity to spur the Korean literature in China to be properly judged and placed in the Eastern and World Literature. It will also contribute to confirm the literary gallantry of the Korean nationals in China and to revive their literary duties and roles in the new century of millenium culture.
The essay has scrutinized the compiled poetry of Sim as a national poet and concluded that his poetic qualities and trends can be summarized as the poetic flexibility and spiritual infirmity, the traditional consciousness and home wardness, the temperamental progressiveness, and the philosophical intelligence. Above all, his poetry are based on the innate lyric quality, mellow and suave. He could be called as a forerunner of poetic insight, who strived to overcome the poverty of philosophy and idealogy in his literary days, a traumatic barrier even in the contemporary poetry,
The essay makes several propositions requisite to be progressively administered as follows; First, it is recommended to renovate the Sim's birth place as early as possible, since the house of his birth has been precisely reconfirmed by his kinsfolk. Also, a literary monument as a symbolic structure is proposed to commemorate his literary achievement as a national poet, Second, it is advised to annually hold an international academic symposium among the Korean and Chinese literati. Therefore, further study should be conducted on his extensive world of art or letters in a new aspect. Third, it is hoped to initiate a literary fair in commemoration of him and to establish a research institute of his literature in a nation-wide scale under the patron of the local literati and citizens in Kangneung, It is also necessary to revitalize Kangneung as a city of culture, tourism, and new millenium by hosting such a literary event, Fourth, it would be desirable to further extend and disperse the present literary evaluation of Sim's poetic genius to the outside world which has been denominated as the national poet, the poetic saint, and the poetic grand mountain.
