Since 2003, we have been witnessing politically conservative civic organizations sailent engagement in political affaires, in which some Protestant churches playa crucial role This paper holds the premise that it reflects, however outmoded it may look, the return of the extreme right-wing in a global scale since 1980s Under this presumption, this work tries to show that the revival of the extreme right represents really a new social phenomenon and that it retains an element of system conserving efforts in the face of social challenges threatening long-standing right-wing hegemony in Korean society From an analysis of data collected from materials around the recent mass demonstrations for Anti-North Korea, this paper finds that the current politicization of conservative civic organization relies upon scapegoating, militarism, and media and suffers from the lack of well-organized social and political theory Politically conservative civic organizations do not systemically claim for the exclusion of social minority from social and political power nor do they appear to constitute themselves as a seriously significant political alternative in a Korean political terram Furthermore, it would be far-fetched to define the politicization of conservative Protestantism as something similar to religious Fascism in Europe in 1920s Since conservative civic engagement is still at the early stage of its development, we need to draw practical implications from its upsurge rather than to make any vulgar formulation on it Especially, we need to overcome the convention that finds nothing new in the radicalization of the right-wing. We should also realize that it is a political phenomenon rooted in the excluded world in our society
