About a third of population living in the USA, Europe or Korea are known to seek alternative medicine. The insurances companies m USA are now starting covering medical expense spent on alternative medicine. The National Institute of Health(NIH) of USA has established a office of alternative medicine as subdivision. Besides, the medical schools of Harvard, New York university and other wellknown universities are paying more attention on alternative medicine than ever by providing curriculum and by supporting researches. About a half of medical doctors in USA are practising alternative medicine and 90% of German doctors are known to practise acupuncture for treatment of many kinds of pain. Thus it would not be an exaggeration to say that alternative medicine is popular in
worldwide aspects. Then, what is the medical vIew in Korea to see the alaternative medicine? Most of doctors in Korea degrade alternative medicine as something even not having the worth of being mentioned. The reason that lies behind this negative view can be: (I) most of the alternative medical practicers bring malpractice because they are not qualified
as a professional and thereby don't know the true meaning of underlying background in alternative medicine. (2) recent alternative medicine is rather a mosaic set of many categories because alternative medicine itself lacks a theoretical paradigm. But our Korean medical society cannot ignore the alternative medicine. Thns for us to understand it and for us to develop alternative medicine, we need a framed theory which can explain all categories under name of one medical paradigm.
Design: First of all, medical history and past medical literatures were reviewed for the investigation of which philosophy was underlying the modem medicine for its development. From this research, it was noticed that modem medicine was developed under the influence of physics. So biomedicine was developed under the influence of Newtonian physics. From beginning of 20 century, new physics, quantum physics was appeared. Thus it was suggested that quantum physics could be applied in medicine. For this purpose, quantum theory of David Bolim and quantum biology of Glen Rem were adopted to apply them into medicine. I called this new paradigm of medicine as "quantum medicine" Results: The quantum medicine could cover the all various ideas and practices in alternative medicine into one framework. In other words, quantum medicine can explain the unexplained aspects of all alternative medicine.
Conclusion: No doctors would argue that modem medicine bears limitation. Thus there is a consensus that doctors are in need of new medical paradigm to overcome the limitation. Modem medicine has developed under the influence of physics and it has been assumed that the on going direction of modem medicine would be quantum physics. Under this assumption, a new paradigm of medicine, quantum medicine was framed. Quantum medicine is sharing many aspects of oriental philosophy which makes us easy to understand it. Besides, the quantum medicine will contribute in combining western and oriental medicines into one unified universal medicine. At this moment, Korean medical society is adopting alternative medicine without any principle. But I recommend we would accept quantum medicine as a basic principle of alternative medicine.
