The fact that there was the variety which our ancestors tried to express through Saikdong in the another side of the simple image of the brightness and luxuriousness which the moderns can feel after seeing the product that Saikdong was applied was demonstrated by the related literature and essay researches. and then the characteristics of Korean Saikdong was considered with the relation to the Korean traditional ideology. Yim-Yang-O-Haeng Theory. and unique Korean color recognition.
In the unique color of our race. we can see the color which consistently expresses the relationship with the conception and the philosophical ideology as well as visual element. and it is the very Ohbangsaek( five colors blue-red-yellow-white-black) .
It can be said that Korean unique colors were generally expressed as following four aspects. (1) the meaning of auspiciousness which implies the symbolism and spelling power of Korean people was included. (2) the color was used to express the conception of space. (3) the class and social position were described by the use of the color. (4) the respect for the white in the dailY life was actualized in the use of the clothes. and the use of the composed and medium color was utilized to harmonize with the natural color.
The result of consideration about the Saikdong based upon these Korean unique color perception. the symbolism of the Saikdong (1) expressed the color arrangement and combination of the Saikdong. and in the color conception the mutuality and conflict according to the Yim-Yang-O-Haeng Theory. and (2) also expressed the incantational manifestation and folk religious shamanism which would prevent the approach of the misfortune through the symphony with the Saikdong. (3) the selection of the color which was used in the Saikdong was expressed by the aesthetic judgement and color emotion of the contemporary people. and it is the aesthetic expression which was intended to the natural beauty.
On the other hand. since we can found the various clothes of which style is a kind of Saikdong in the present minor races besides the Saikdong in Korea which symbolizes Korean image. and it is expected that based upon this study and by comparing and researching the Saikdong which was expressed in the clothes of the minor races. the origin of the Saikdong and its symbolism can be estimated.
