The use of laminated plates is growing very rapidly around the world. Many advantages including
high-performance, light weight, high strength and stiffness structures of laminated constructions make
the use of laminated plates possible in the automobile, architectural glazing, aerospace and aeronautical
fields. In this work, impact induced damage in glass/Al alloy laminated circular plates with interlayer
adhered by epoxy resin under different curing temperatures of R.T. and 100°C, respectively were
investigated when an instrumented long bar impacts circular plates under biaxial flexure state. In order
to improve the damage tolerance of laminated circular plates, various geometric and material parameters
are considered in determining their effect in maximizing absorbed impact energy. Parameters include the
extent of thermal stress depending on the thickness of each layer and constituent materials of laminated
plates. The measured impact force profiles explained well the impact damage induced in laminated
circular plates.
