The national literature of Korea in the 20th century tried to fight the trend of nationalism and the abstract internationalism.
The national literature is not based upon the nationalism which privileges the nation against class and gender. The national literature also fights the trend of nationalism which recognizes nation as trans-history phenomenon. Therefore, we must distinguish the national literature of national consciousness and nationalistic literature of nationalism Yum, Sang-Sup, a famous Korean novelist, is the most important writer who followed the road of national literature.
The national literature is not based upon the abstract internationalism which underestimates the specificity of Korean history as non-western periphery. The national literature believes the attitude of internationalism which makes it possible to unite a human being beyond the nation-state. But it fight the trend of abstract internationalism such as proletarian internationalism which does not explain the colonial condition of korea. Im, hwa who wants to follow the road of national literature as the famous Korean poet is the victim of this abstract internationalism.
