This thesis treats the conception of Chosun-si and the idea of Gookminmunhak(國民文學, national literature).
The conception of Chosun-si and Gookminmunhak of Uk Kim and Yohan Ju are attempts to find the 'common sense' based on the racial unity. Their goal was to construct the modern literature involving the 'tradition' by regaining the language of Chosun and the traditional aesthetic value.
So, the conception of Chosun-si of Uk Kim and Yohan Ju and ‘Sijoron(時調論, theory of korean verse)' of Namsun Choi have the same goal.
Their Gookminmunhak is the source of the idea of the modern Korean literature. It is the idea uniting the aboriginal thing to the modern thing and is 'Chosun-sim(朝鮮心, heart of Chosun)' and the 'language of Chosun' as the cultural object. In fact, 'the thought and emotion of the Chosunese' and 'the language of Chosun and the form of Chosun' could be the principle distinguishing 'the category of the Korean literature' by the dichotomy of 'a content / a form'.
The will of “distingushing the power and beauty of the language of Chosun” newly rehabilitates ‘the Chosunly thing' as ‘the aesthetic self-consciousness'. By recognizing Sijo(時調, Korean verse) and Minyo(民謠, ballad) as the value of representing “the Chosunly thing”, the ‘tradition' is resurrected as 'the modern value'.
