In this paper, a higher-order shear deformation theory for the
analysis of orthotropic plate is presented. Strain free boundary
conditions and von Karman strains are used for the derivation of
governing equation. This higher order shear deformation plate
theory (HSDPT) contains the same dependent unknowns as in the
Hencky-Mindlin type first order shear deformation plate theory
(FSDPT) and explains palabolic distribution of the transverse
shear strain through the thickness of plate. The equation of
motion is derived by Hamilton's principle and is formulated for
the analysis of static bending and free or forced vibration of
simply supported orthotropic plates.
Transverse normal and shear stresses are derived from Cauchy's
equilibrium equation.
