This paper is to propose a new concept for computer-aided
structural design system which is called Strucutral Design
Processor(SDP). Structural design report is the result of
a structural design work and a major media of delivery
of result to following works. The editing process of
structural design report is the process of structural
design itself. SDP assists integratedly engineers in
all the editing process of structural design report.
With SDP, it takes charge of procedural calcuations and
data flow between each calculation sheet and engineers
concentrate his efforts on decision-makings and process
control works which affect seriously the design quality.
The concept of Electric Design Sheet(EDS) is introduced
as the main tool for engineers to edit the structural
design reprot. EDS displays the information extracted
from previous works and generated by the system. Engineers
review and edit them by their design concept through EDS.
In addition to it,SDP allows engineers to control the design
process forward and backward.
SDP is expected to improve the productivity and the quality
of structural design works as a result of rational division
of jobs between computers and engineers according to their
competence.
