Our dwelling environment is not a objective, physical world, but a concrete everyday life-world before abstraction process. "PLACE" is a background to the world of life, and concretized as a sense of belonging to dwelling environment. Having the sense of belonging is to orient among the chaotic unknown world and to identify. ourselves with characteristic of surrounding environment. To serve that orientation we need the spatial organization of place and to serve this identification, the characteristic of place (mood, atmosphere). The spatial organization comprises three basic categories, that is, Domain District, Path-Axis, Place-Center. They have different characters one another and different topological properties, such as proximity, closure, extension, and direction. Appling these concepts to study on "place" in Korean traditional dwelling environment presented on the classical Korean painting, we can discover the facts as followings. 1. Spaces which have the same character as Place.Center are verandah, level up floored-room, main floored-room, detatched drawing room of house of SA RANG, rear garden, wall and the gate. 2. Every house has such Path.Axis as wall (which surrounds the neighboring houses) -small bridge (cross the stream) -wall(which forms one's own servant's houses) -gate(of one's own houses) 3. Every village has such Domain.District defining elements as mountains, hills, rivers, wooded outskirts, thus natural topoligical elements.
